Cloud-hosted Pi-hole alternative#
Free DNS ad blocker#
A Pi-hole in the cloud: network-wide ad and tracker blocking without buying, hosting or updating your own hardware. GraceDNS runs the resolver for you on servers in Germany and your protection follows your devices everywhere, at home and on the go.
Why cloud instead of a Raspberry Pi?#
- Nothing to host. No SD card corruption, no power outages, no updates at 2am.
- Works outside your home network. A Pi-hole only protects devices on your LAN. GraceDNS protects your phone on mobile data, too.
- Encrypted DNS built in. DNS over TLS and DNS over HTTPS out of the box, so your ISP cannot read or tamper with your lookups.
- Per-device configurations. Give the kids' tablets a strict profile and your work laptop a lenient one, from one account.
- Security lists included. Ads and trackers plus phishing, malware and botnet blocking from curated threat feeds.
Free for individuals#
Individuals pay nothing and get 3 configuration sets with full blocking features and custom allow/deny lists. See pricing on the homepage.
Get started#
- Create a configuration (see docs).
- On Android, set Private DNS to
<configid>.dns.gracedns.eu(guide). - In your browser, use
https://dns.gracedns.eu/<configid>(guide). - Or set it once on your router for the whole network.
Honest note: DNS blocking works at the domain level. Some ads, notably YouTube ads served from the same domains as the videos, cannot be blocked by any DNS filter. Read what DNS filtering cannot do.
